His family also has a rich history in sports; both his father, Frikkie, and uncle, Bennie, represented South Africa internationally in canoeing. But now, I’m focused and feeling motivated for Vancouver.”

Reflecting on his unexpected ascent to being named in the Springbok Sevens squad, Reynders shared, “After training with the squad, I didn’t actually think I would get the call-up.” But that changed when Snyman informed him moments before Friday’s tournament, reclaiming a life-long dream and showcasing how unpredictable and exciting the journey of an athlete can be.
